Celebrity designer Thanrei Raising stunned designers when she exhibited her wedding gowns in Bangalore this week.
Her collection was a series of artistic wedding gowns with intricate and artistic patterns and folds. Thanrei has been known for her designs, especially for her gowns which have adorned the best of Bangalore’s people for a while.
A wedding gown can be especially complicated and each of Thanrei Raising designs are customised to the person.
“I take time to understand the person”, says Thanrei Raising. “And create a design that is all about her – in color, texture and style”
“A wedding is a once in a lifetime experience, and the pictures are treasured forever – seen by generations. The dress should also be as timeless” she adds.
Wedding gowns have defined fashion in generations. The Princess Diana wedding gown has been named as one of the most iconic dresses this century, along with Marlyn Monroe and Elizabeth Hurley’s Versache.
So what makes a dress iconic?
According to Thanrei Raising, it’s about a style that should be timeless.
“The design has to be timeless, especially when its about wedding gowns. The gowns that are among the most iconic in the world would be as fashionable today, as when they were first worn, that’s why they are special” says Thanrei Raising.
People agree. “I feel it should be a reflection of the bride & bridge groom’s Love story, culture when it comes to the color & work but designed keeping in mind the skin tone, body type and the comfort for those movements the bride has to manage on THE DAY” says top Interior Designer Ritisha Niveda. “The bride has to enjoy the gown and her day making it a memorable one for her .”
“The wedding season is around the corner and for a while the Wedding gowns have been trending” says Supriti Batra, one of Delhi’s best known wedding makeup artists. “The gowns were earlier part of the western culture earlier but now the Indian bride adorns this exquisite outfit for some functions like engagement and cocktails. It’s a beautiful adaptation in the indian wedding scene where the bride gets her fairy princess moment. I feel personally it’s a beautiful garment and just brings out the beauty in a woman. A good wedding gown should accentuate the brides body and be a perfect fit. A well embellished gown in pastels is a dream for all brides to be” she adds.
A beautiful gown should give beautiful memories and not otherwise.
Multi award winner Thanrei Raising – originally from the north-east, she blends the rustic traditions of the earth – with the sophistication of the classiest of contemporary fashion.
But why are wedding gowns expensive?
“Wedding gowns are usually individually handcrafted”, says Thanrei Raising. “It takes many, many hours to create and perfect an individual wedding dress. There is no mass production line, so of course this is going to enhance the cost of the gown, because only one can be produced at a time.”
“Wedding dress designs can be and are often altered to suit a bride’s specific style. This can mean adjusting fabrics, hemlines, necklines, sleeve style and length, waist and bust fittings and so much more. This is a process that calls for a great deal of artistic skill because every element of the whole wedding dress design has to be customized to suit the individual”
The models and the viewers loved her designs.
“The TR brand is synonymous with style and glamour,” said Yashi Baid. “Thanrei Raising works with the millennials to give them class with contemporary style”.
